Day 1: Drive from Dehradun to Raithal
🚗Drive Distance: 185 km | 🕗Drive Duration: 8 hr. approx. | 🏔️Altitude: 7,142 ft
Raithal, the base camp for the Dayara Bugyal trek, is around 9 hours away from Dehradun. The drive takes you through lovely forest stretches as soon as you exit Dehradun. Within an hour, you pass through Mussoorie, one of the most popular hill stations of Uttarakhand. Between Mussoorie and Uttarkashi, you come across a viewpoint, often called the Tingling Point, from where you get astounding views of almost all of the Garhwal Himalayas. Right from the mountains near Himachal (Swargarohini and adjoining peaks) to Mt Bandarpoonch to Mt Srikanth, the Gangotri Peaks, the Chaukhamba massif, all the way to Mt Nanda Devi, you get striking views. This is of course possible only on a very clear day.
The largest town on the route is Uttarkashi, from where you head to Bhatwari. As you approach Raithal, the village flourishes with lush greenery. The route to Raithal is like a pathway between the mountains. The closer you get to the base camp, the more brilliant views of sunset over Mt Bandarpoonch, Mt Srikanth, Mt Jaunli and Draupadi ka Danda peaks. You will get the first glimpse of the Gangotri range, Shrikanth peak from the Moryana top. Here you will halt for a small break if you wish to capture the splendid peaks.
As you approach closer to Natin, the views of mountain peaks get bigger, Shrikanth peak is one of the prominent peaks from here. The last prominent market is at Uttarkashi and a smaller market at Bhatwari. You will spend the night in a guest house or get a taste of a village homestay. In the evening, you will have a quick introduction and briefing session with the trek leaders and guides, and you will be given a schedule of the upcoming trekking days and other related information.
Planning your arrival: Day O

Please book your flight/ train/ bus tickets well in advance to reach Dehradun.
You must book your tickets for Day 0 or earlier. Day 0 is the day before day 1 on your Itinerary.
There are 2 easy ways you can do so:
Direct Flight to Dehradun
Highly recommended since it gives you an additional rest day at Dehradun. If the flight ticket is too expensive, book your flight to Delhi and reach Dehradun by Bus/ Train.
Taxis/ Cabs are available from airport. Prepaid taxis are also available at the airport near the arrivals section. Airport taxis cost around ₹800 to ₹1,000 per taxi to Dehradun which may cost you lesser if you share it with any co-passengers on your flight.
You can also look for Autos outside the airport area. Autos are not permitted to enter the airport. They will charge you around ₹300 to Dehradun. If you couldn't find an auto, walk for another 1.5 km to Rishikesh Dehradun Highway. You can board a regular town Bus or shared Auto (called Vikrams, usually blue in color) for ₹30.
Please Note: if the cost difference in flight ticket prices between Delhi and Dehradun is around ₹1000 then book your flight directly to Dehradun. It gives you enough rest and saves time.
Flight to Delhi
It may be a bit cost effective than a direct flight to Dehradun. Book a flight that arrives in Delhi by 8.00 PM on Day 0. Take the metro line for your nearest railway station/ bus stand.
Train options to Dehradun:
KOTA DDN AC EXP (12401)
Book your train ticket to Dehradun on KOTA DDN express from Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station which leaves at 11:50 PM and Arrives Dehradun by 05:45 AM.
DDN JANSHTBDI (12055)
You may also take the afternoon Jan Shatabdi express from New Delhi Railway station which leaves at 03:20 PM from Delhi and Arrives Dehradun by 09:10 PM.
VANDE BHARAT EXP (22457)
The fastest train to Dehradun Vande Bharat Express can be booked except on Thursdays from Anand Vihar Railway Station. It leaves at 05:50 PM from Delhi and arrives Dehradun by 10:35 PM.
Bus options to Dehradun:
There are regular Volvo AC buses available from Delhi's ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Dehradun. You can also board a non-AC bus available almost every half an hour. Bus takes 7-8 hours to Dehradun from Delhi. AC bus tickets cost around ₹800 and ₹500 for non-AC.

UttarakhandBook (UKB) is dedicated to making reasonable modifications for individuals with disabilities, provided these adjustments do not fundamentally alter the nature of the trip. Without fitness, trekkers may struggle to follow up with others, get injured or struggle to complete the trek.
How to achieve the fitness level?
Cardiovascular Exercise: Aim for activities that increase your heart rate, such as running, cycling, or using elliptical machines. These will improve your stamina and cardiovascular health.
Strength Training: Focus on exercises that build leg and core strength, such as squats, lunges, and deadlifts. Strong legs and core muscles are crucial for hiking on uneven terrain.
Hiking Practice: Try to hike on trails with inclines while carrying a weighted daypack. This will simulate the conditions you’ll face on your trip and help you get used to the weight and feel of your gear.
Footwear: Wear the same footwear you’ll use on your trip during your training hikes. This will help you break in your shoes and avoid blisters.
Consult a Doctor: Before starting any new exercise program, especially one that is more strenuous, it’s important to check with your doctor to ensure you’re medically safe to participate.
Gradual Progression: Start with less intense workouts and gradually increase the intensity and duration. This will help prevent injuries and allow your body to adapt to the increased demands.
Getting in shape will not only enhance your enjoyment of the trip but also reduce the risk of injury and ensure you can fully participate in all the activities planned.
Each participant will need to complete the required forms for legal purposes by Uttarakhandbook and the forest department.

Identity Card: Original and photocopy of a driver’s license, Aadhar Card, or passport for identification by the forest department.
